February 14

Just a brief post for today's big computer-related anniversaries:

Inventor Christopher Sholes was born on this day in 1868. He patented the typewriter in 1874 and invented the QWERTY keyboard we all know-and-love today.

In 1899, the first voting machine was invented. Over a hundred years later, technology is still trying to get this one right.

Happy Birthday IBM. Big Blue was born on this day in 1924.

And finally, in 1989, on this day, the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system was born. The first of 24 satellites was launched into orbit.
